ABSTRACT

Objective@#To explore the relationship between anemia and neuropsychological development in various domains among preschool children in China.@*Methods@#Data came from the National Nutrition and Health Systematic Survey for children in China, and 3 261 preschool children aged 2-6 years and their parents from 28 sites across 14 provinces were recruited in this study. Parental and child characteristics were obtained by interview administrated questionnaires. Blood hemoglobin(Hb) concentration was determined by Hemocue method. Neuropsychological development quotients were assessed using the Development Scale for Children Aged 0-6 Years(WS/T 580-2017).@*Results@#The average Hb level was (125.23±11.49)g/L and the overall anemia prevalence was 10.30% among preschool children. After adjusting the confounding factors(sex, age, ethnicity, region, feeding mode, maternal status during pregnancy, etc), developmental quotients of gross motor( β=-2.15, 95%CI =-3.89--0.41), fine motor( β=-2.46, 95%CI =-4.12--0.79), adaptive behavior( β=-2.59, 95%CI =-4.42--0.76), language( β=-3.65, 95%CI =-5.53--1.78), personal social behavior( β=-3.11, 95%CI =-4.94--1.28) and full scale( β=-2.79, 95%CI =-4.10--1.49) among children with anemia were significantly lower than non anemic infants( P <0.05).@*Conclusion@#Anemia was negatively associated with developmental quotient, as well as five domains of gross motor, fine motor, adaptive behavior, language, and personal social behavior in preschool children aged 2-6 years. It is suggested to carry out the work of anemia monitoring and intervention in preschool children to further improve their neuropsychological development.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Epidermal growth factor can inhibit gastric acid secretion, promote the healing from the ulcer, protect mucous membrane, and enhance the growth and proliferation of mucous membrane cells of the gastrointestinal tract.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of epidermal growth factor at different doses on the barrier function of the intestinal mucous membrane in rats after radioactive damage.DESIGN: A randomized controlled trial.SETTING: Department of Clinical Trophology, First Affiliated Hospital and College of Public Health.MATERIALS: The experiment was completed at the Public Health Department of Xinjiang Medical University and the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from August 2001 to May 2003. Totally 80 newborn Wistar rats, half male and half female, were involved in the study.METHODS: Wistar rats were randomly divided into the control groups(positive and negative) and intervention groups(30 μg/kg, 20 μg/kg, 10 μg/kg) with 16 rats in each group and half male and half female. The models were made by a single radiation of 9.5Gy on the abdomen except for the negative control group. Epidermal growth factor was injected subcutaneously once per day for intervention. Eight days later, the body mass, food intake, efficiency of food utilization were observed and the morphology of the intestinal mucous membrane was checked.dermal growth factor on the increased body mass, food intake and food intake observation of the intestinal mucous membrane under the optic microscope and the electric-microscope.group of rats with epidermal growth factor of 30, 20, 10 μg/kg and the intake of the female and male rats in the group with epidermal growth factor of 30, 20, 10 μ g/kg was significantly different compared with that of the rats in the negative control group( P < 0.05), while there was no significant under the optic microscope and electric microscope showed that when epidermal growth factor was administrated, epidermal growth factor could apparently improve the intestinal mucosal barrier function with the increase of the dose, especially in the group with epidermal growth factor of 30 μ g/kg,which indicates that epithelial cells were increased obviously and cup shaped cells were also increased.CONCLUSION: Epidermal growth factor might not affect the body mass, food intake and efficiency of food intake of the rats, but large doses of epidermal growth factor can improve the morphology of the intestinal mucous membrane and promote the proliferation and repairs.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the anti-fatigue function of black currant extracts in mice. Method Kunming mice (SPF) were randomly divided into black currant extracts high, middle, low dose group, black currant natural juice dose group and control group according to their body weights. Mice were administered ig daily for 30 d. The loaded-swimming time ,hepatic glycogen ,blood urea nitrogen were measured. Results Black currant extracts high, middle, low dose groups could increase the time of loading swimming, and the hepatic glycogen content, and decrease blood urea nitrogen in mice. All indices above were more than those in black currant natural juice except the blood urea nitrogen content was lower. Conclusion Black currant extracts could alleviate physical fatigue in mice, and be better than black currant natural juice.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the relationship between occupational stress and psychological health state among oil workers.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>1,230 oil workers in 122 work types of oil industry were selected and written occupational stress questionary(OSQ) and symptom check list (SCL-90).</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Petroleum workers' psychological health states were poor with increasing occupational stress degree. The scores in physical symptoms(1.87 +/- 0.80, 1.72 +/- 0.70), depression(1.74 +/- 0.76, 1.62 +/- 0.67), horror(1.48 +/- 0.65, 1.39 +/- 0.55) in the high and medium stress group were obviously higher than those in low stress group(1.55 +/- 0.61, 1.43 +/- 0.54, 1.28 +/- 0.46, respectively, P < 0.05). The score of mood state in the high and medium stress group was obviously higher than that in low stress group(P < 0.05). Psychological health states and mood state in the petroleum workers with short service length are significantly poorer than that with long service length(P < 0.01).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Occupational stress should affect psychological health state of petroleum workers.</p>
